What Glia Is
Glia is a personal memory and narrative app. You share moments, conversations, and reflections with it; Glia holds them, finds patterns across them, and turns them into stories about your life. Because of what Glia does, the data it holds is personal and meaningful — and we treat it that way.
What We Collect
When you create an account:
- Your name and email address
When you use Glia:
- Moments, memories, and reflections you log — by text or voice
- Photos you choose to add to your memories
- Conversations you have with the Glia AI
- The names of people, places, and objects you mention
- Stories Glia generates from your content
- Your city or general area (for location-relevant context)
- How you use the app — which features you use and how often
- Basic device information to ensure the app works correctly
What we do not collect:
- Your exact GPS location or coordinates
- Your contacts or address book
- Data from other apps on your device
- Anything from your microphone or camera without your explicit permission
How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Generate your personal memories, stories, and reflections
- Personalise Glia's responses based on your history and patterns
- Connect your memories to the people and places in them
- Fix bugs and improve the app
- Send you updates about new features and product changes
- Respond when you contact us for help
AI and Your Data
Glia uses AI to generate responses, stories, and reflections. Here is how it works:
- Your content is sent to AI services — currently Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini) — to generate personalised responses and stories
- These providers are contractually restricted from using your personal content to train their models
- All AI-generated content is created specifically for you, based on your memories and patterns
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your data. We only share it with:
- Service providers who help us run Glia — cloud storage, AI services (Anthropic, Google), customer support tools
- Legal authorities if required by applicable law
- Other users, only when you explicitly choose to share a memory or story with them
All service providers are required to keep your data secure and may only use it to provide Glia's services.
Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time
- Download a copy of everything you have created in Glia
- Ask us what data we hold about you
- Request corrections to inaccurate data
- Opt out of non-essential communications (you will still receive important account notifications)
- Turn off app notifications at any time
If you are in the UK or EU, you have additional rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
Children and Privacy
- 13 and older: You can use Glia and manage your own privacy settings
- Under 13: A parent or guardian must create and manage the account
- All users have the right to request deletion of content they created while under 18
Keeping Your Data Safe
We protect your information with:
- Encryption in transit and at rest
- Secure servers and regular security reviews
- Restricted internal access — only team members who need your data to provide the service can access it
No online service is completely secure, but we work hard to protect yours.
How Long We Keep Your Data
- While you use Glia: We keep your data to provide the service
- After you delete your account: We remove your personal data within 30 days
- Anonymous usage statistics may be retained longer to improve the app
Data Storage
Glia is based in the UK. Your data may be stored in the UK, Europe, and the United States where our service providers operate.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect.
